A restraining waist seeks to resist, as Lucy ties an additional line of rope around her mannequin in an attempt to measure its thinness, an exactitude of measurements, if she counts how many peas she eats at dinner. A pea a day, and a tin of sardines would be able to give her a desired waist, so she thinks, dressing her mannequin.
